Anne Brasseur elected President of ALDE

28 September 2009, the ALDE Group unanimously supported Mrs Anne Brasseur, former Minister of Education of Luxembourg, to become the new President of the ALDE, succeeding outgoing leader, Mr Matyas Eörsi.

This morning Mrs Anne Brasseur was unanimously elected leader of the ALDE Group. With its 101 members from 38 states, the ALDE is the third largest political group of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Counsil of Europe.

Mrs Brasseurs, engaged in politics since 1975, has a long and rich experience of parliamentary work. Formerly she had been Minister of National education and sports of Luxembourg (1999-2004) and she is at present chairing the Committee on Culture, Science and Education of the Parliamentary Assembly.

Mme Anne BRASSEUR vient d'être élue ce matin à l'unanimité à la tête du Groupe ADLE (Alliance des Démocrates et Libéraux Européens), qui est avec ses 101 membres de 38 pays différents le troisième groupe par ordre de grandeur de l'Assemblée parlementaire du Conseil de l'Europe.

Madame Brasseur, entrée en politique en 1975, a une longue et riche expérience de la vie parlementaire. Elle a exercé les fonctions de Ministre de l'Education nationale, de la Formation professionnelle et des Sports de 1999 - 2004 au Luxembourg, et elle préside actuellement la Commission de la culture, de la science et de l'éducation de l'Assemblée Parlementaire.
