President Brasseur on behalf of the ALDE Group congratulated Mrs Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger on her imminent nomination. "Not only the ALDE Group, but the whole Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe can be proud of you. Rapporteur on particularly complex cases, you have demonstrated that it is possible to reconcile political work at home, in Bavaria and at the federal level of the German Republic, with passionate commitment in Strasbourg, in Europe of 47. Your commitment in the Parliamentary Assembly has not been an obstacle for your political activities at national level. On the contrary, as your success and achievements clearly show it!" said Mrs Brasseur in her letter.

During her outstanding career at the Parliamentary Assembly, Mrs Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger has prepared reports on such sensitive issues as "The Italian Law on legitimate suspicion", "The circumstances surrounding the arrest and prosecution of leading Yukos executives", "Investigation of crimes allegedly committed by high officials during the Kuchma rule in Ukraine: the Gongadze case as an emblematic example" and the last report and resolution on the "Allegations of politically-motivated abuses of the criminal justice system in Council of Europe member states" adopted on 30 September 2009.
