PACE calls for serious and independent investigation based on Dick Marty's report
25.01.2011 "There is no reason today to celebrate our triumph… Real justice should be done and not "justice d'alibi". It is not my report that constitutes a scandal. The scandal is that witnesses have been assassinated" said Dick Marty at a press conference. "The true danger of democracy is organised crime and corruption in the European countries" and this resolution should become the first step to combat these crimes and protect our values".
In its Resolution 1782 (2011) adopted yesterday by an overwhelming majority (169 against 8, 14 abstentions) the PACE demanded serious and independent investigations into "organised crime and its connections with representatives of political institutions or in respect of war crimes committed against Serbians and Albanian Kosovars" and into "allegations of existence of secret detention centres where inhuman treatment was purportedly inflicted on prisoners from Kosovo, of Serbian or Albanian origin".
